Not really my style so up for sale it shall go. I also found an adorable carpet bag clutch purse (photos coming soon), two Bon Appetit cookbooks from the early 90's, an old hardcover issue of "From Here To Eternity", a small book of poems and an old thermometer/ owl thingy. It's broke and serves no purpose other that it's vintage and I think owls are cool.<br /><br />On a different note, I made the crispy roast chicken that's featured in January's MSL- Delicious! I added a few onions chopped in quarters and several whole cloves of garlic in to roast with the potato's. If by chance you have any drippings left in the pan after the chicken is done, try adding a little cooking sherry to taste and a few dashes of "Wondra", maybe a little salt, too. Makes for some tasty gravy. This meal got rave reviews from my family and smelled incredible while cooking.<br /><br />That's about it, life is slow and I like it that way. Happy Monday. :)<br /><br />PS- Don't forget to check out the eclipse tonight!Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17000812234631972372noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196199376938326326.post-55378296367731645722010-12-19T08:24:00.006-05:002010-12-19T08:32:19.248-05:00Vallerie Galloway<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyerm2BC2PFyv5zqJ_O0FNKldDg1eRTm4ARUx3wUEf_NFA2BuvjeJFbFesB6dE5bY0yMDFL9wxcONvgq74-6ezl0I82429ne839NN8-4OhTH3ZdOS7daaOKj9RQt2QYVaUqyiX3HKnl1U/s1600/vil_570xN_175451105.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552384119529353922" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyerm2BC2PFyv5zqJ_O0FNKldDg1eRTm4ARUx3wUEf_NFA2BuvjeJFbFesB6dE5bY0yMDFL9wxcONvgq74-6ezl0I82429ne839NN8-4OhTH3ZdOS7daaOKj9RQt2QYVaUqyiX3HKnl1U/s400/vil_570xN_175451105.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcjs4gO_Uf9VEGFwDc39eIY9StrZqskA_28IlquzpTDE7AveuJn9sI241sfyTgS3mhgoAJk0BDIOuFtuZFcheElkYlikiHdWkYkQGnrsO4goMN4SFN1AZLydmOd0iNLk5Eb8M6offqNH4/s1600/vl_570xN_169326909.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552384035567192850" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcjs4gO_Uf9VEGFwDc39eIY9StrZqskA_28IlquzpTDE7AveuJn9sI241sfyTgS3mhgoAJk0BDIOuFtuZFcheElkYlikiHdWkYkQGnrsO4goMN4SFN1AZLydmOd0iNLk5Eb8M6offqNH4/s400/vl_570xN_169326909.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVNkiKHgmWQvgcUQmgOK1XZnqpxr8r0JWNh75oCsWtbVxLnwFikJ3IyeV8UZwMlvg12tUJwzZtJgkGywHs0G_Ut4nXEpvqBRBAIK96QylQYhbosN2-uBRbwi3tOHOoOwKAAMb5BtMGeRQ/s1600/vil_570xN_189895503.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 308px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552383882810774818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVNkiKHgmWQvgcUQmgOK1XZnqpxr8r0JWNh75oCsWtbVxLnwFikJ3IyeV8UZwMlvg12tUJwzZtJgkGywHs0G_Ut4nXEpvqBRBAIK96QylQYhbosN2-uBRbwi3tOHOoOwKAAMb5BtMGeRQ/s400/vil_570xN_189895503.jpg" /></a><br />I was selfish again... So simple it was hard to resist! Tightly roll a sheet of the paper length wise, fold in half and then braid. use a piece of rope twine to tie it at the bottom. Easy and a very pretty addition to the bundle of wood I have resting in the big basket by my fireplace. This project prompted me to look for similar ideas and here is what I found- Herbal fire starters as seen above: Dry out a few of your favorite herbs and spices (mint, rosemary, cinnamon, etc), twist them up, add to fire. Makes the house smell incredible.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjazHev5b-M3yAlZOu8449s-oVsErGEoP-d36b4aG-oSLHD-Gjzye0_MG9hhl30zQAqS3Zc-dVxYZ5HW-aGt_ijEt1kKqEG6RV5bEUjJQc6wNOG0NoQUiAQZu1XfyMNSFTjyHjQOFIw98w/s1600/jav5C0EDE2D.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 236px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 236px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5551614952559025458" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjazHev5b-M3yAlZOu8449s-oVsErGEoP-d36b4aG-oSLHD-Gjzye0_MG9hhl30zQAqS3Zc-dVxYZ5HW-aGt_ijEt1kKqEG6RV5bEUjJQc6wNOG0NoQUiAQZu1XfyMNSFTjyHjQOFIw98w/s400/jav5C0EDE2D.jpg" /></a> Next: I've always liked the Java Logs and have been curious to try and make my own seeing as we drink a ton of coffee in my house and always have grinds to throw away. The recipe for this sounds extremely easy and can be found here- <a href="http://www.ehow.com/how_4866384_make-log-using-coffee-grounds.html">http://www.ehow.com/how_4866384_make-log-using-coffee-grounds.html</a> I will let you know how mine turn out.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHIWzEoDa6aNjUB-AE7libk4JidgaRG5x3OwytaHEqJ8VskxXgLDRR5wGFRSXi8NXmfe10AtgGMUQmoV9xymTjvgzwKY9ONQ2sFVlTsbYb_0a09yJEK18nKg8Pha4HwHTsQomVE0VzOI8/s1600/orangepeels.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 250px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 250px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5551613867419066786" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHIWzEoDa6aNjUB-AE7libk4JidgaRG5x3OwytaHEqJ8VskxXgLDRR5wGFRSXi8NXmfe10AtgGMUQmoV9xymTjvgzwKY9ONQ2sFVlTsbYb_0a09yJEK18nKg8Pha4HwHTsQomVE0VzOI8/s400/orangepeels.jpg" /></a> Last, I stumbled on to this idea by accident and cannot wait to try it out... Dried orange peels for kindling the fire. I can only imagine how amazing this must make ones home smell. You can save the peels and dry them in a paper bag or you can set them on a roasting pan in a warm oven set to a very low temp. From what I've read, they get very hot and in the old days were used as a substitue for coal to heat stoves. How cool is that?!</div><div></div><div>Incredible scents to fill your home on a cold day, good for the planet and good for your pocket. :)<br /><br /></div><div></div>Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17000812234631972372noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196199376938326326.post-31153211209077178782010-12-17T06:05:00.003-05:002010-12-17T06:19:12.456-05:00Merry Christmas To Me<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA5VLlqbOPyFBtu702vANYfvVH6Tz1pWQ-O7eCKEGTrakWtWRg8fOGFYkO2ek3Tm3nKzboKV1BKHlGOu54b6SozPrYO5WJJdkg9-YD4lPF3AyIQwoAMbZggQlFP0NBYZ4QugVbHe3lRm8/s1600/valqil_570xN_189062903.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5551605927581324306" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA5VLlqbOPyFBtu702vANYfvVH6Tz1pWQ-O7eCKEGTrakWtWRg8fOGFYkO2ek3Tm3nKzboKV1BKHlGOu54b6SozPrYO5WJJdkg9-YD4lPF3AyIQwoAMbZggQlFP0NBYZ4QugVbHe3lRm8/s400/valqil_570xN_189062903.jpg" /></a> I was horribly selfish last night (yet smiling as I type). After buying my youngest some adorable handmade toys on Etsy, I went over to Valerie Galloways page to drool. I wasn't going to... I didn't mean to (ok, maybe I did). But I ended up buying myself this print that I've wanted for a while now. It wasn't very expensive and I still have money tucked away to get everyone their gifts. Guilt level - low. Excitement level in anticipation of hanging this on my wall - very high.<br /><br />You can find more of Valerie's work here <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/ValerieGalloway">http://www.etsy.com/shop/ValerieGalloway</a>Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17000812234631972372noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196199376938326326.post-811510211449246312010-12-12T10:21:00.007-05:002010-12-12T15:27:40.300-05:00Sunday Dinner<em>*My mom and I at Saint Peter's Square. I did not change out of my pajamas and the only reason I stepped foot out of bed was for coffee and to tend to my fur babies. My boyfriend brought me an extremely unhealthy, unglamourous (taco bell) lunch. We watched the Seminoles cremate the Gators as I pretended I was eating cuisine from some fabulous 5 star bistro. Not a Nacho bell Grande. I entertained day dreams of owning a vintage dutch bike and opening up a quaint little soul food restaurant in the historic part of town (two words - gold mine). I downloaded "Truth" by The Jeff Beck Band released in 1968 and listened to a young Rod Stewart croon the blues. I also downloaded Tom Montefusco, Unknown Hinson and Trombone Shorty. I searched for sweet potato pancakes and lemon pie recipes. I played with Johns beard scruff and showered his cheeks and lips with light kisses.<br /><br />Today, I clean. Bummer. :( Maybe I'll bake something, maybe a little thrifting...Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17000812234631972372noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196199376938326326.post-14134694628575564112010-11-27T09:28:00.003-05:002010-11-27T09:42:59.311-05:00...And Everything Nice<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpCOviLaOQOxfbhC3dXlxbEwNwzCceoeYcF6thljTPbxZmDhCBOUjwmcRVThNxe9h8tASzhuiQtIqZCi8gTgQDPad0-v_AmPVVqMAIKwXN2nbXaGfEiPfIWtGetQVVoZPbJHDPwfEd0qQ/s1600/nov25101bwnov25n2.bmp"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544237476398640002" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpCOviLaOQOxfbhC3dXlxbEwNwzCceoeYcF6thljTPbxZmDhCBOUjwmcRVThNxe9h8tASzhuiQtIqZCi8gTgQDPad0-v_AmPVVqMAIKwXN2nbXaGfEiPfIWtGetQVVoZPbJHDPwfEd0qQ/s400/nov25101bwnov25n2.bmp" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2XmNcsfIPDoP-YIKHRqmdEFE-IoPj3Lhg8cER5tqNer_XesD8L7MQPNqVpI835qCUkJ9DgUYci4m9MbxU3BhOGy76ZzKM9nHD-aK9SS06BZwTN20706bJa0blGgHT3kM1Q8PZfcJJdcs/s1600/nov25101bw2nov25n1.bmp"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544237470455978274" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2XmNcsfIPDoP-YIKHRqmdEFE-IoPj3Lhg8cER5tqNer_XesD8L7MQPNqVpI835qCUkJ9DgUYci4m9MbxU3BhOGy76ZzKM9nHD-aK9SS06BZwTN20706bJa0blGgHT3kM1Q8PZfcJJdcs/s400/nov25101bw2nov25n1.bmp" /></a> Little girl at the new Disney Princess movie Thanksgiving night. <br /><br /><div></div></div>Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17000812234631972372noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196199376938326326.post-16958968925860810412010-11-27T09:17:00.005-05:002010-11-27T09:23:35.658-05:00Downtown Last Night<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1uxrF1KcMV8RC3QqvNDfqGAOmfX6ikxiF4LWA1undugOPzAc-gzy75TZCJZqUp8TvJrHI9MDVy3DEDw9m92qcbbP4DKZgpvZJ-ltVMlnpn6-xCpF3ranbcVkaV77eLVWjIVaTCjB7RA0/s1600/nov263.bmp"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544234183428354834" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1uxrF1KcMV8RC3QqvNDfqGAOmfX6ikxiF4LWA1undugOPzAc-gzy75TZCJZqUp8TvJrHI9MDVy3DEDw9m92qcbbP4DKZgpvZJ-ltVMlnpn6-xCpF3ranbcVkaV77eLVWjIVaTCjB7RA0/s400/nov263.bmp" /></a> It's a blurry mish-mash of lights, people and a windshield in dire need of cleaning taken with a dinky IPhone. </div>1/4 cup good olive oil <br />
<br />
1 medium Spanish onion, chopped <br />
<br />
3 cloves of garlic, diced <br />
<br />
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes <br />
<br />
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano <br />
<br />
1 cup vodka <br />
<br />
2 (28-ounce) cans peeled plum tomatoes <br />
<br />
Kosher salt <br />
<br />
Freshly ground black pepper <br />
<br />
3/4 pound penne pasta <br />
<br />
4 tablespoons fresh oregano <br />
<br />
3/4 to 1 cup heavy cream <br />
<br />
Grated Parmesan cheese <br />
<br />
<strong>Directions:</strong><br />
<br />
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. <br />
<br />
Heat the olive oil in a large oven proof saute pan over medium heat, add the onions and garlic and cook for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add the red pepper flakes and dried oregano and cook for 1 minute more. Add the vodka and continue cooking until the mixture is reduced by half. <br />
<br />
Meanwhile, drain the tomatoes through a sieve and crush them into the pan with your hands. Add 2 teaspoons salt and a pinch of black pepper. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and place it in the oven for 1 1/2 hours. Remove the pan from the oven and let cool for 15 minutes. <br />
<br />
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta al dente. Drain and set aside. <br />
<br />
Place the tomato mixture in a blender and puree in batches until the sauce is a smooth consistency. Return to the pan. <br />
<br />
Reheat the sauce, add 2 tablespoons fresh oregano and enough heavy cream to make the sauce a creamy consistency. Add salt and pepper, to taste, and simmer for 10 minutes. Toss the pasta into the sauce and cook for 2 minutes more. Stir in 1/2 cup Parmesan. Serve with an additional sprinkle of Parmesan and a sprinkle of fresh oregano on each plate. <br />
<br />
<em>I kept last night simple pairing the pasta with a fresh baguette and a mellow red table wine. However, next time I'll add a dark green salad, pancetta appetizer and make a tiramisu for desert. {Maybe I'll even triple the ingredients and invite friends over - it's that good-} This is one of those recipes that doesn't need to be altered. It's a bit time consuming but if you follow the directions, you will have the most amazing vodka sauce -ever-. My second oldest, the pickiest eater in the universe, went for seconds. When this happens, I know I've got a winner.</em><br />
